A few things before you begin

What is the difference between Markdown and TextPack?

A regular .md file contains Markdown text; local images usually live in a folder beside it. A .textpack stores the text and images in one ZIP container. A name such as notes.md.textpack works too—the extension is still .textpack. Other editors need TextPack support to open it directly. You can also unzip it to access the text and attachments.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No account is needed. Documents are read, edited, and saved on your device. TextPack documents with embedded images also work offline. Displaying or exporting remote images and pasting web content requires access to the corresponding image URLs.

Can I read long documents and large files?

Yes. Chapter outlines, reading preferences, and position restoration help you keep your place. Documents of 2.5 MiB or more open with viewport rendering, reducing the work of laying out the entire document at once. This lightweight preview may display complex formatting differently from regular documents.

Are my changes saved automatically?

You save the original document manually. Unsaved changes are kept in local recovery drafts, with up to five drafts retained. TextPack drafts include embedded images. Recovery drafts offer limited recovery; save and back up important work regularly.
