TUMBLINGCAT / GUIDE
What is a TextPack file, and how do you open it?
TextPack stores Markdown and local images in one file. Open .textpack or .md.textpack documents in TumblingCat, or use a ZIP utility to extract the text and attachments.
Updated
How does it differ from a .md file?
A regular .md file contains text, with image links such as pointing to separate files. TextPack is a ZIP container containing text.md, info.json, and images in assets/. Embedded images travel with the package.
The final extension of notes.md.textpack is still .textpack. Renaming an ordinary Markdown file does not convert it; use an application to create the package.
Open, edit, and save in TumblingCat
- Use Open in TumblingCat for Windows or Android and select the .textpack file. On Windows, you can also drag it into the app.
- Switch between WYSIWYG, Source, and Reader. Pasted screenshots and inserted local images become attachments inside the document.
- Select Save to write your changes. On Android, the first save after importing through the system picker asks for an export destination. Recovery drafts do not replace saving the file.
Extract the content for another editor
- Make a backup copy. Open the copy with a ZIP utility; if the utility does not recognize the extension, rename the copy to .zip.
- Extract the entire package into one folder, preserving the relative positions of text.md and assets/.
- Open text.md with a Markdown editor. Changes to the extracted copy do not automatically update the original TextPack file.
Does it work offline?
The text and embedded images work offline. Existing remote image links keep their original URLs when you save as TextPack, so those images still depend on the network. Check that required images are embedded before sharing.
The downloadable sample contains bilingual text and an embedded cat icon. Its image does not require an external image server.
Image support and limits
TumblingCat supports PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP images, up to 32 MiB each. Compressed and uncompressed package totals are each limited to 128 MiB, with up to 4,096 entries.
Not every Markdown editor directly supports TextPack. TumblingCat also does not directly open .textbundle folders. Check your collaborator’s software before sharing editable packages.
